BASIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR QUADRITEK 2100
How To Turn Machine On
1. Turn on Video Display Terminal (screen). Switch is located on right hand side of terminal.
2. Put Program Disk (TOS) in Drive A, label towards the left. Shut door.
3. When format size is asked for, type in 1.
4. Keep Program Disk in.
5. Turn on typesetting unit. Switch is located on left hand side behind door.
6. Wait until red lights for On-Line and Font keys come on.
7. Remove program disk.
8. How To Set Exposure (Optional: Regular default setting is 50.)
A. Take machine off line.
B. Press Exposure Key
C. Enter exposure value (00 99) on gray keys
D. Press Enter Key
E. Put machine on line.
How To Turn Machine Off
1. Take typesetter off line.
2. Stop font drive.
3. Wait for red font drive light to go out.
4. Turn off typesetting unit.
5. Remove all floppy disks from Drives A & B.
6. Turn off VDT.
How To Change Fonts
1. Take typesetter off line.
2. Press disk key.
3. Load fonts.
4. Press disk key. Put typesetter on-line.
Output Mode Disk
1. Change fonts if necessary.
2. Place desired disk in Drive A, label towards left.
3. Press [MEDIA COMMAND] OMDA
4. Give file a name up to 8 characters
5. [END LINE] (if an error is made, hit [EOC])
6. Press [MEDIA COMMAND] RW0 (reads all widths)
7. Hit [JUST] key twice, fast.
8. After widths have justified, press [MEDIA COMMAND] OT. (Output Text)
9. Keyboard job.
10. When finished, press [COMMAND] EJ (end job) [END LINE]
11. Press [COMMAND] DM ALL PAU! [LEFT]
12. Hit [JUST] key twice, fast
13. Hit [JUST] once more.
14. Press [MEDIA COMMAND] OT (Output Text)
15. When "Output Done" message is displayed, press [MEDIA COMMAND] HMO. This saves the file to disk.
16. Job is ready to be set. See "How To Typeset"
How To Edit A File
1. Place desired disk in Drive A, label towards the left.
2. Press [MEDIA COMMAND] SDA
3. Cursor to desired file and hit [END LINE]
4. [MEDIA COMMAND] IFD [END LINE]
5. [MEDIA COMMAND] OMDA [END LINE] to give job next version number.
or [MEDIA COMMAND] OMDA "New Name" [END LINE]
6. Cursor down to bring in job or hit [JUST] twice to bring in entire job.
7. Change version number in slugline if possible
8. Make corrections/revisions
9. Press [JUST] key twice, fast
10. Press [JUST] key once more
11. [MEDIA COMMAND] OT (Output Text)
12. When "Output Done," [MEDIA COMMAND] HMO [END LINE]
How To Typeset A Job
1. Place desired disk in Drive A, label towards the left.
2. [MEDIA COMMAND] SDA
3. Move cursor to desired file and press [END LINE] key
4. Make sure red "on-line" light is on.
5. [MEDIA COMMAND] TJ [END LINE] sends job from disc to typesetter.
6. Typesetting unit will set job. If error code comes up hit [MEDIA COMMAND] JQ to check on status. Consult user's guide in order to take corrective action as stated by code.
7. When "END JOB" or "ALL PAU" light flashes on, cut paper and process job.
8. Return black box to typesetter.
9. Press gray "On-Line" key to reactivate typesetter.
How To Telecommunicate with IBM Displaywriter
1. Put Program Disk (TOS) with "CTTY" in Drive A. Close door.
2. [MEDIA COMMAND] SDA
3. Move cursor to "CTTY" file and press [END LINE]
4. [MEDIA COMMAND] LP [END LINE] (Loads program)
5. Screen will read "Command In Progress"
6. Wait until program is loaded.
7. [MEDIA COMMAND] SDA
8. Move cursor to "IDC Prams" and press [END LINE]
9. [MEDIA COMMAND] IFC [END LINE]
10. Put desired disk into Drive B.
11. [MEDIA COMMAND] OMDB Name [END LINE]
Example: TRAN 01
12. [MEDIA COMMAND] SI (Systems Interactive). Type in "Hello"
13. Hold Down [CONTROL] and hit R
14. Screen should read "Input Wait"
15. All systems go, communication with Displaywriter enabled.
16. When input is done, hold down [CONTROL] key and hit CC. (This dumps buffer into disk and clears screen.)
17. [MEDIA COMMAND] HM [END LINE]
18. [MEDIA COMMAND] SDA.
19. Cursor to "HJ2USPFHOVL" and press [END LINE] key.
20. [MEDIA COMMAND] LP [END LINE]
How To Call Up Trans File For Editing
1. Take Program Disk out and put disk in Drive B into Drive A.
2. Load fonts.
3. [MEDIA COMMAND] SDA
4. Cursor to new trans file.
5. [MEDIA COMMAND] IFD [END LINE]
6. [MEDIA COMMAND] OMDA Regular Name [END LINE]
7. Read font widths, change hyphenation program to automatic by pressing [COMMAND] AU.
8. Bring job in with cursor, just key or search and replace.
9. Edit and close job as usual. Close input file.
10. Mark Trans file for deletion after first run of regular job.
