Read this for important Mailing List information.

    REPOSTED FROM SCOTT ISHIYAMA

    Aloha, Old Friends,

This is to inform you of the new e-mail address for the Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List. Submissions to the list can be sent to babylon-50@lava.net.

Please read the following "Welcome" message, especially the section on "Replying to the List." Thanks to John Engelhart for sponsoring the list these past months, and to Baron Fujimoto & Robert Brewer of LavaNet who have been a great help getting the current list off the ground.

    (Revised 1/16/98)

Welcome to the Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List!

    List Administrivia

To subscribe to the list, simply send a message with the word "subscribe" in the Subject: field to <babylon-50-request@lava.net>. To unsubscribe from the list, simply send a message with the word (you guessed it :-) "unsubscribe" in the Subject: field to <babylon-50-request@lava.net>. In the event of an address change, it would probably be the wisest to first send an unsubscribe for the old address (this can be done from the new address), and then a new subscribe to the new address (the order is important).

Most (un)subscription requests are processed automatically without human intervention.

NOTE: The -request server usually does quite a good job discriminating between (un)subscribe requests and messages intended for the maintainer. If you'd like to make sure a human reads your message, make it look like a reply (i.e. the first word in the Subject: field should be "Re:", without the quotes of course); the -request server does not react to replies.

Submissions to the Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List should be sent to babylon-50@lava.net. Questions or subscription requests should be sent to Scott Ishiyama at scott-i@iname.com.

About the Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List

My name is Scott Ishiyama, and I'd like to welcome you to the Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List. The original "KFVE-5 (Hawaii) Babylon 5 Info List" was started by Ethan Butterfield. When I didn't see any outraged posts after B5 was preempted several times, I contacted Ethan & his successor, John Engelhart & was offered the opportunity to "carry the torch." The new list ran for several months courtesy of server space provided by John Engelhart. Currently, the list is hosted courtesy of LavaNet. My sincerest appreciation to Baron K. Fujimoto and Robert S. Brewer for their help in migrating to the new server and SmartList software, which promises to make my job a snap. Thanks, guys!

I'll try my best to post any information about the show, particularly regarding local airing times. But my efforts alone aren't enough. The Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List was resurrected to help local fans share the latest news & events related to the airing of Babylon 5 in Hawaii. Any info you can share will help make this list a valuable asset to other B5 fans in Hawaii, so please participate!

The Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List is unmoderated. I'd like to keep this casual & low-key, and will consider moderating the list only if things get out of hand.

Replying to the List (Old Timers, take note!): Macjordomo, the previous list management software, inserted the List address as the "Reply-To" address so that replies would automatically be sent to the entire list. The new SmartList software does not insert a "Reply-To" address. As a result, replies are now sent directly to the original message writer, not to the List. To reply to the List, use the "Reply To Group" option if your e-mail software supports it. If not, you will need to insert the List address () in the "To:" field manually to reply to the List. (If you're having problems with this, e-mail me for assistance at . This can be changed if enough people request it.)

    Discussions of B5 Episodes ("Spoilers")

Details about episodes that may not have been seen by other list members in Hawaii are considered "spoilers" for the purpose of this list. Since some of us "time shift" our viewing of B5, list members have requested guidelines to protect them from inadvertently reading this information.

General comments like "Anyone notice that (Episode title) was broadcast in stereo this week? Great sound effects!" wouldn't be considered spoilers, but specifics like "I can't believe Delenn left Sheridan for Marcus!" certainly would be. Use your discretion.

If you think your message (or reply!) may contain spoilers, please make sure that the Subject of the message contains the word "SPOILER:" followed by the episode(s) involved. A message entitled "SPOILER: Epiphanies/Into the Fire" would contain spoilers for both episodes. Also, leave white space (20 blank lines should be enough) at the beginning of the message, so the spoilers aren't at the very top.

Most of us watch an episode within a week to keep up with the story, so if it's been more than a week since an episode aired _locally_, don't worry about spoiler protection. Discussions of episodes more recent than those already aired in Hawaii should be taken to rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated (my preference) or to rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.

    Local Broadcasts of Babylon 5

Babylon 5 reruns air on TNT Cable Monday - Saturday mornings on TNT cable at 6 AM. Check listings for showtimes in your area as some cable systems do not delay TNT's broadcast for Hawaii.

Starting in September, Babylon 5 reruns will air on the Sci-Fi Channel.

    Credits & Thanks

Special thanks to: Ethan Butterfield, for starting the original of the Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List & for his encouragement & support. John Engelhart, for serving as surrogate "list mom" after Ethan's departure, and for providing a home for the Hawaii-B5-Mailing-List.

LavaNet, for providing a new home for the List. Questions about the Hawaii Babylon 5 Mailing List servered by SmartList can be addressed to Scott Ishiyama at .

    Aloha,
    Scott
